Commercial Break: October

October 6, 2018

Netflix:

The Dragon Prince: The head writer of Avatar: The Last Airbender has helped create this show, and it shows. It shows this through its character driven story and fresh take on the fantasy genre that doesn’t just rely on its primarily young audience as a crutch for story telling. It doesn’t show it in its 3-D computer generated graphics lack some of the charm and craftsmanship that shows like Legend of Kora and A:TLA have.

Watch if… you can’t find bootleg episodes of A:TLA or Legend of Kora online-- I mean if you break you legally purchased Blue-Ray.

Hulu:

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: The talented John Krasinski from Office fame shows off his acting chops and takes up the legacy character mantle of John Ryan from the likes of Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine, with a TV show that is smart, action packed, and more loyal to the source material than any of its predecesors.

Watch if… you’ve always wondered what Jim’s life would have been like if he hasn’t stumbled, too-cool-for-work, into Dunder Mifflin and had instead found a truly challenging job.

Amazon Prime:

This Is Us: I will start this review at the end, and then seamlessly transition into the beginning, then touch back to the middle, and then someone I have introduced, and made you care about, will definitely die.  Seriously, I’m going to avoid any spoilers because this show rises above the wasteland of hollow prime-time dramas with impressive writing and memorable performances.

Watch if… if you want a class on how to incorporate multiple story lines into one stories; see also, if you need a good, pitiful, sob-filled cry.

LA is Editor-in-Chief and Head Writer at Lot 10 Underground. He is an avid Eagles fan and a weary Lakers one. He grew up sneaking through the halls of Hogwarts after dark with Harry and his more talented friends, stumbling along the dark walls of Rock Tunnel in Pokemon Red, storming through flood riddled ships with Master Chief, and questioning Goku's parenting techniques in DBZ. If you'd like to contact him, you can try an owl, but he prefers e-mail:
